Raffaele Palladino talks about his future at Atalanta. The coach expresses his desire to create a team in his image: “I’m fine here”
Raffaele Palladino send a message. On the eve of the match against Milan, the coach spoke about his future in Bergamo, taking stock of his first five months on the Nerazzurri bench: “I’m proud of our journey. We went from 13th to 7th place in the league, came close to reaching the semi-final of the Italian Cup and went out on penalties, beat Dortmund. Now we have to continue, end the season well. Milan? A strong team, with which we will have to put our qualities on the field, our desire to demonstrate that this month, however, the performances have been good. We would like to try to get points at the home of a team that wants to get results. I have many things to think about and I don’t think about Milan’s difficulties. They are a team expert, used to playing certain games.”
On singles
On attacking ideas: “I’ve tried various solutions, I like the double striker. Raspadori is a strong player and will demonstrate his value. The young people? Vavassori, Levak, Obrić and Manzoni often train with the first team and by meritocracy they can also have their say with us. It’s obvious that for next season we will have to make evaluations with the club based on who will leave and who will stay. I am very attentive to the young people.”

On the latest releases by the Goddess, characterized by more than one misstep: “Lately, Atalanta’s DNA has been missing in some matches where we weren’t involved, like against Sassuolo or Cagliari. Even against Genoa we were slightly behind the pace. But there were also matches against Juventus, Roma and Lazio in which we performed well and proved that we are the team I would always want. My job is to field people who go to two thousand and never get out of line. For most of the season, in the first four and a half months, we saw Palladino’s Atalanta. Then we fell short in the final push: we lacked a few goals in the backcourt. It’s a team that has scored less this year: we lost Retegui and Lookman, who had scored a lot. That’s 48 fewer goals that you inevitably have to look elsewhere for. It’s my job to work on it: the kids need confidence in their abilities.”
About the future
Now we need to end the season well. Palladino called the group back to a worthy championship finale, so as not to frustrate the efforts made. “Everyone must give something more”, he stated. And about the future: “I haven’t received any signals, let’s think about finishing well, then the rest will be decided by the club. A month ago the club had nice words towards me, publicly and privately, but first we have to finish the season well. I have to concentrate on what we have to do. The desire is to be able to finish well and be able to build a strong and ambitious team next season together with the club, choose players in my image and likeness, I’d like to do it because here we want to open a new cycle. This is my desire, but for now I haven’t received any signals. I have experience in this sector, we think about giving our best and then the club will decide. I’m fine here.”
