Palermo names an area to Totò Schillaci, a symbol of redemption and sports pride
The mayor Roberto Lagalla yesterday a trade union determination issued for the variation of the denomination of a stretch of Piazza Leoni in “Piazzetta Totò Schillaci”.
The stretch of Piazza Leoni Identified – It is that between Viale del Fante, the Via dei Leoni, the street of the Artigliere and the same Piazza Leoni, for the proximity to the municipal stadium Renzo Barbera and other sports facilities.
“With this provision, the municipal administration wants to renew its thanks and that of the city towards Totò Schillaci. Totò was not only the hero of the magical nights of Italy ’90 or the most representative Palermo footballer in history worldwide. His figure, in fact, managed to bring the name of Palermo up to the world around the world and has always done so, keeping his soul pure and kind. That same soul that represented a symbol of redemption for Palermo who, right in the early nineties, lived a difficult period. Attaching to Totò Schillaci a square overlooking Viale del Fante, what can be considered the most representative road of the city for the presence of the Barbera stadium and other facilities that this administration is renovating, is the recognition of the great man of sport, and of all the best values that contains, that the Palermo footballer has been and, for this, we also thank the toponymy commission that has accepted this initiative ».
The mayor declare it Roberto Lagalla and the deputy mayor and councilor for toponymy, Giampiero Cinnamon.
The date of the title ceremony will be communicated in the coming weeks.
