Tragic Confirmation of the Disaster
On the evening of July 7, a Boeing 737-400F belonging to K2 Airways took off from the United Arab Emirates. Moments later, it vanished from radar screens. Pakistani authorities have since confirmed that the aircraft has tragically crashed, resulting in the loss of all five crew members onboard.
Crew Reported Navigation Issues Before Crash
Initially, the aircraft disappeared from the flight control radar late on Tuesday evening. Shortly before its disappearance, crew members reported experiencing navigation problems, as indicated in an official statement by the Pakistani airport authority. The plane reportedly lost altitude rapidly, with flight tracking service Flightradar24 recording a dramatic descent over the Arabian Sea. During its descent, it experienced an alarming sink rate of approximately 22,400 feet (nearly 6.8 kilometers) per minute.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. He directed the Civil Aviation Authority, the Navy, and the Air Force to intensify rescue operations, while also offering condolences to the families of the lost crew members.
Crash Site Yet to Be Identified
The Boeing 737 was en route from the emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to the Pakistani port city of Karachi when it went down. It was located about 300 kilometers west of Karachi over the Arabian Sea at the time of the incident.
Aerial search and rescue operations are still underway, but as of now, the crash site has not yet been located. Pakistani aviation circles have confirmed the involvement of both the Navy and Air Force in these operations. K2 Airways is a private airline that was established in 2018 and primarily serves cargo flights.
