For the second time in her career, Jessica Schilder from Volendam is participating in the FBK Games in Hengelo. Last year the shot putter from Volendam won gold against compatriots. This edition also includes international athletes.

The Volendamse does not expect to take gold against a field of participants including Auriol Dongmo, Anita Márton and Chase Ealey. “It will be a great game against the world’s top in any case, where I want to punch 18.5 meters. It is especially important that I gain rhythm and I am curious how I will do against such top athletes. It is a different field than in 2021, but the is a good preparation for the World Championships in Oregon and European Championships in Munich.”

At the moment she is in a heavy training program in preparation for the aforementioned tournaments. “That makes it more difficult, because you know that you are hitting less far than usual. Fortunately, it will take another month before the World Cup is on the program. Because of the training program you want to peak at the right time.”

good season

“I certainly can’t complain”, Schilder responds to the question about her season so far. That’s how she grabbed bronze at the World Indoor Championships she broke records and took them her third national title. “I never expected to hit 19.72 meters in Apeldoorn. Unfortunately, that did not count as a national record, because there were too few participants. That makes me even more motivated to improve the record again.”
