Padellen in Bruges club can appeal a little longer again
The Bruges court had decided in summary proceedings that the Bruges tennis club had to keep the padel court closed in the evenings and on Sundays. The neighbors were fed up with the noise and had therefore gone to court. There were peaks that set 70 decibels at their house. Negotiations failed and the case ended up in court.
The neighbors had actually demanded the cessation of activities, as long as it was not done in a closed, isolated room. According to the judge in summary proceedings, there was indeed noise nuisance, and from then on padel was only allowed between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., on Saturdays only until 4 p.m. and certainly not at all on Sundays and public holidays. For each violation, the club would be fined 1,000 euros.
Many members gone
The club appealed and is now getting a relaxation: padel is allowed until eight o’clock in the week and until six o’clock on Saturday. The Sunday ban remains. In the meantime, the club placed an acoustic curtain, but due to the short playing times, more than half of the 400 members already left. A judgment on the merits later can lead to another verdict. The noise measurements for this still have to be done.
