The legislator’s message, in addition to highlighting the family traits he shares with his father and brother, encouraged the legislative reforms that the ruling party is willing to present this year. “A pride to be a splinter of this wood. A lifetime my dear old man Alberto Benegas Lynch dedicated to fighting the ideas of freedom, with the sole dream of living a freer and more prosperous world for all. I am excited to witness the recognition that is given to so much battle, to join the enormous ‘guardian of ideas’, Bertie Benegas Lynch, and put my small grain of sand in the historic transformation led by our president Javier Milei”, he stressed.
The Benegas Lynch family has occupied a unique place within Argentine liberal thought for decades and, in recent years, its influence has been directly projected on national politics through the libertarian government and the official La Libertad Avanza coalition. It is a lineage with historical roots in the country’s political and economic elite, whose surname refers to figures of traditional conservatism. Among his ancestors are the military José Tiburcio Benegas and the governor of Mendoza Tiburcio Benegas Ortiz, in addition to the conservative leader Robustiano Patron Costas, presidential candidate during the end of the so-called Infamous Decade, before the military coup of 1943.
Currently, the contemporary patriarch of the family is the economist Alberto Benegas Lynch (h), considered one of the main disseminators of classical liberalism and the Austrian school in Argentina. For decades he worked as an academic, lecturer and trainer of economists, in addition to founding the Higher School of Economics and Business Administration (ESEADE)an institution created in 1978 that became a nucleus for the training and dissemination of libertarian ideology in the country.
From that academic field, part of the ideological framework emerged that would later fuel the political rise of Javier Milei. The president himself usually cites Benegas Lynch (h) as one of his intellectual references and has publicly defined him as a “procer of liberalism.” In this framework, ESEADE became a frequent space for conferences and activities of the current president and libertarian leaders, in addition to granting him an honorary doctorate in 2022. A recognition that was reflected in the Presidency of the Nation Scholarship, a private initiative of the university created in honor of the Head of State.
According to Bertie Benegas Lynch himself, the initial contact with the then media economist arose through social networks and later transformed into a close political relationship based on ideological coincidence around “the defense of life, liberty and property.” An ideological concept of the alternative right that minimizes State interference. A curious feature, taking into account that two Benegas Lynch are part of the Argentine State as national legislators.
In that aspect, the third generation of the family fully entered politics with the rise of the mileista movement. Alberto “Bertie” Benegas Lynch, economist and leader of La Libertad Avanza who in 2023 was elected national deputy for the province of Buenos Aires. Before joining Congress, he had developed an extensive career in the private sector, with executive positions linked to the Santander group and Universia in Latin America. In the Chamber of Deputies he became one of the figures most ideologically aligned with the anarcho-capitalist project.
His brother, Joaquín Benegas Lynch, followed a different path for years, linked mainly to business and agricultural activity. Based since 2007 in the Entre Ríos city of La Paz, he founded the company Glocal Terra, dedicated to investment advice and field management. In 2025 he made the leap into politics and was elected national senator for the province of Entre Ríos for La Libertad Avanza for the period 2025-2031.
The influence of the clan in the LLA universe is also projected in symbolic spaces linked to the movement. One of them is the musical group known as “The Presidential Band.” In that group, Bertie participates as a drummer, while his brother works as a guitarist, completing a lineup that usually performs at public events, such as at the Movistar Arena last year.
With three generations linked to economic liberalism, the Benegas Lynch established themselves as one of the most influential families in the ideological ecosystem that surrounds the current Argentine government. Its simultaneous presence in the intellectual, legislative and party world illustrates the role that this lineage plays in the doctrinal and political construction of the libertarian project that governs the country today.
