PA Sports banned from releasing new single over ‘controversial lines’

The new single “Echt” by PA Sports and its signing Hamzo 500 was supposed to be released next Friday. Now the distribution of his major label Universal Music put a spanner in the works. Because of “controversial lines” the release had to appear on March 18th.

The decision would have been made because of four lines, as these were classified as problematic from the point of view of the major label. PA Sports said in one of its Insta stories that it “cannot understand” this decision. He stressed: “Nowadays ethics committees decide how boys on the street should express themselves. Irony of fate that this very song bears the title ‘Real’.”

PA Sports takes a stand on Universal Music and discusses the reason for its delayed single ‘Real’.

It’s not the first time that Universal Music’s rappers have felt robbed of their artistic freedom. After allegations of abuse were made against the Berlin rapper Samra last year, the major label reacted promptly. Universal Music positioned itself on the allegations and decided to “let the contract with Samra rest until the allegations have been clarified”. Ultimately, this led to the separation of both parties.

Shortly afterwards, the rapper Nimo also had to find out what it means if the major label is not behind the chosen formulations. Because here, too, Universal Music did not want to tolerate a few lines of his single “Komm mit” and then deleted the track. Only after a few months had passed did Nimo comment on the incident. He also stated that he would not have agreed with this measure.

Another incident of this kind occurred with Massiv’s then Signing Kilomatik. The rapper then had to change and censor his lyrics. Massive criticized this approach and wrote on Instagram that those responsible would “never understand rap”.
