A farewell in two files

A public funeral service took place the day before in Osbourne’s hometown Birmingham. Hundreds of fans gathered to say goodbye when the funeral procession drove through the city with a Jaguar corner and six black Mercedes. The route led, among other things, past Osbournes birthplace in the Lodge Road, where residents: inside flowers and put a picture of the musician into the window.

The funeral procession ended at the famous Black-Sabbath-Bank on Broad Street, accompanied by the live brass band Bostin ‘Brass and numerous fan tributes. According to the city administration, the Osbourne family took over the entire costs of the funeral service. Birmingham’s mayor Zafar Iqbal praised Osbourne as “more than a music legend – a son of the city” who remains connected to Birmingham forever.

Ozzy Osbourne: Grave on the family property

The following day Osbourne was buried in the closest circle. The ceremony took place on the extensive property of “Welders House” near Gerrard’s Cross – a listed villa that had been inhabited by Ozzy and Sharon for years. The tomb area is located near a lake on the 250 hectare property. Photos show a huge flower wreath with the inscription: “Ozzy F ** King Osbourne”. A simple “Ozzy” wreath also adorned a fountain on the property. According to media reports, Elton John and Metallica singer James Hetfield are said to have been among the guests of the private funeral service.

No urn, but a tree

The choice of the grave corresponds to a wish that Osbourne had already recorded in his autobiography “I am Ozzy” in 2010. In it he wrote: “I said Sharon: ‘I don’t burn myself whatever you do. I want to go to the earth, in a beautiful garden, with a tree above my head.'” The musician would like to continue, should it be a crabapple tree so that his children could make wine from it “.

With the usual black humor, Osbourne added: “What will be on my tombstone? I don’t make any illusions. I already see it before me: Ozzy Osbourne, born in 1948, died at some point. He bit off a bat.”
