Outlook on new smartphones, laptops and more

This year, for the first time since the corona pandemic, the MWC will take place again at the usual time in Barcelona. Numerous manufacturers from the mobile industry will be showing their latest devices and developments on site. TECHBOOK summarizes the innovations we can look forward to.

Officially, the Mobile World Congress runs from February 28 to March 3, 2022. But the manufacturers are already starting their first press events on Sunday. This year’s MWC 2022 is a colorful mix of on-site events and online broadcasts. Manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei, Honor, OnePlus, but also Amazon and Google as well as some network operators are included.

But what can we expect at Europe’s largest trade fair for mobile tech? TECHBOOK gives an outlook.

Smart office launch by Huawei

Huawei is one of the first exhibitors to present its latest products at MWC 2022 in a major press conference. It starts on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. both on site and online. The event is led by company boss Richard Yu and has the motto “Smart Office Launch”. We can therefore assume that Huawei will mainly focus on accessories products, which include monitors, smartwatches and headphones, among others. This division is becoming increasingly important for the Chinese manufacturer in Europe, since Huawei is not allowed to offer Google services on its smartphones due to the ongoing US ban. The mobile phones are still sold in this country, but they are not very popular.

In advance, Huawei announced the presentation of a “super device” at the MWC 2022. In addition, they want to inform about the plans for 2022. Based on the motto, it can be assumed that Huawei will also show the further development of Harmony OS and its Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). More and more manufacturers are connecting the smartphone system to the desktop in order to enable better hybrid working.

Samsung is showing new laptops at MWC 2022

Samsung presented the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series as part of an unpacked event on February 9th. But the manufacturer is also present at the MWC 2022 with new devices. In addition to a smartwatch, tablets and smartphones, a laptop can also be seen on the invitation to the press event. Since Samsung has already presented its new smartphones and tablets as well as innovations for the Galaxy Watch, new laptops remain.

It can therefore be assumed that Samsung will present new Galaxy Books and the matching One UI Book 4 interface at the MWC 2022. On the website “Giznext“ you can already find the first information and pictures of a Galaxy Book Pro 2 360, a laptop with a 360-degree tiltable display and an Intel processor. But some are also expecting another smartphone, the Galaxy A53. The latter would continue Samsung’s popular mid-range range.

Samsung’s press event will take place on Sunday, February 27th, starting at 7pm.

Honor with new smartphones

Honor split off from Huawei in November 2020 and has been operating independently ever since. This has the advantage that the company is not affected by the US embargo and has no restrictions on chip technology and Google services. The company announced its latest flagship, the Honor Magic 4, via Twitter. Unlike its predecessor, the new smartphone should be available globally. The performance will take place on February 28 at 1 p.m. under the motto “The Power of Magic”.

It is also conceivable that Honor will announce the worldwide launch of the Magic V as part of the event. So far, the manufacturer’s first folding smartphone is only available in China.

Poco is bringing two mid-range smartphones to the MWC 2022

At the same time as Honor, i.e. on February 28 at 1 p.m., the Poco brand, which belongs to Xiaomi, is also holding its press event. However, Poco has already revealed in advance which new devices can be seen. One is the Poco X4 Pro 5G and the other is the Poco M4 Pro. Both smartphones belong to the middle class.

AVM with new Fritzbox and Fritz!OS 7.50

The Berlin router manufacturer AVM has been taking part in the fair for several years. As early as Thursday, the company revealed in a press release which innovations it will be showing at the MWC 2022. On the one hand, there is the new Fritzbox 5590 Fiber for fiber optic connections, which we have already reported on. On the other hand, there is a preview of the upcoming big Fritz!OS 7.50.

AVM itself does not hold a press conference. The new and well-known products can only be viewed at the exhibition stand.

OnePlus shows OnePlus 10 Pro 5G

OnePlus has also invited to the MWC 2022, but is concentrating on its stand. Here visitors can see the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, which the manufacturer presented at the beginning of the year and whose market launch in Germany is planned for this spring. The smartphone features a Hasselblad-branded camera, has a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED display and is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It remains to be seen whether OnePlus has other innovations in its luggage.

Innovations from Google, Telekom and Co.

Aside from product presentations, numerous announcements about new software, technologies and more await us at MWC 2022. For example, Deutsche Telekom will broadcast its “Magenta Keynote” live from Barcelona on February 28 from 12:30 p.m. Here the network operator reveals news about artificial intelligence, deals with 5G and sustainable technology and shows an exclusive preview of the newly arranged “Angels” ballad by Robbie Williams.

We expect topics related to Android from Google. For example, the update to Android 12L for the first smartphones and tablets is expected in time for MWC 2022. Google developed Android 12 primarily for larger devices such as foldables and tablets. The system comes with functions such as the split screen especially for this.

Smartphone manufacturer Realme is not only planning the European launch of the Realme GT 2 Pro at the trade fair, the company will probably also present a new charging technology. With 200 watts, the new charger is said to be the fastest in the world to date.

TECHBOOK will accompany the trade fair for you and report on all important announcements from February 27th.
