The hands are going on today at Open Air Museum Ellert and Brammert in Schoonoord. Around forty volunteers ensure that the museum is ready for the new tourist season. All in the context of NL Doet: a day to have as many Dutch people being volunteered as possible.

“We really like that so many people have come to it,” says Museum President Saakje van Tellingen. “We really have a lot of work before we open again on April 1.” The fact that around forty volunteers today helps out well. They clean up the leaves, fabrics off the turf huts and the windows.

“As a village of Schoonoord, we are very proud of this museum, we think that a very great good and I think it should continue to exist,” says volunteer Willie Zikken between the windows. She thinks it is important to put the shoulders to the wheel together and clean the museum. The latter is certainly necessary, she laughs. “After the park has stopped for almost half a year, it is necessary to clean things again and start the new season.”

In the old school there is also a lot of time being done. The cloths are removed from the wall, the cupboards are dusted and the vacuum cleaner does a round. “It was very necessary,” says volunteer Roelie Regts. “There are a lot of spiders and we have already found a bat behind the canvases. So it was really necessary.”
