Osnabrück is promoted to the 2nd league, Wiesbaden plays relegation

Last-minute thriller in the 3rd league

After a last-minute win against second-team Borussia Dortmund on the last day of the game, VfL Osnabrück is the second promoted team from the 3rd division to the 2nd division. SV Wehen Wiesbaden, which ranks long ahead of VfL in the Blitz table, has to be relegated despite the three against Halle – Dynamo Dresden and 1. FC Saarbrücken remain third-class for the time being.

Wehen only had to settle for fourth place because the goal difference was one goal worse than Lower Saxony. This is still sufficient for relegation because the second team of SC Freiburg cannot be promoted.

The football madness at Bremer Brücke, where coach Tobias Schweinsteiger’s team had been trailing 1-0 to Westphalia for a long time, only started in added time: In the 94th minute, Ba-Muaka Simakala equalized, two minutes later Jannes Wulff’s goal broke all the dams in Osnabrück – and pushed FC Saarbrücken, which until then had thought they had been relegated, back into the 3rd division for another year.
