It was Beyoncé’s first live performance in two years: Last Sunday, the singer opened the awards ceremony with her single “Be Alive” from the film “King Richard”, for which Beyoncé was nominated for best song at this year’s Oscars.

Beyoncé’s performance was broadcast from Compton, hometown of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams. The two also introduced Beyoncé to the Oscars stage. Her performance began with an interlude of Tupac’s “California Love” and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter dancing in the foreground. Beyoncé and all the dancers wore fluorescent, tennis ball green clothes.

Here you can see the performance:

King Richard is a biopic about Richard Williams, father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, which shows how he coached the two to become the outstanding athletes of their generation.

Beyoncé has performed three times at the Academy Awards: In 2005, she performed live for several Best Original Song nominations, including “Learn to Be Lonely” from The Phantom of the Opera. This was followed in 2007 by an appearance alongside her co-stars Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose and Keith Robinson with a medley of Dreamgirls. Two years later, Beyoncé performed a tribute to movie musicals with host Hugh Jackman.

However, Beyoncé was unable to win the award for Best Song and had to admit defeat to Billie Eilish and Finneas, who received the award for their song from the latest Bond film “No Time To Die”.
