The Orange under 17 failed to win the European Championship for the third time in a row on Wednesday. The team of national coach Mischa Visser lost 1-2 to France in Netanya, Israel.

The French victory was deserved. Orange was under considerable pressure in the initial phase of the match. The post saved twice in the first ten minutes. The Dutch promises were unable to create any chances themselves.

All goals came in the second half. The Orange took the lead three minutes after the break through a great goal by Jaden Slory. The seventeen-year-old right winger took a nice pass from Silvano Vos in a controlled manner and rounded off with the tip of the shoe.

The Orange could not enjoy that lead for long. Ten minutes later it was already level with a hard long shot into the right corner of Saël Kumbedi. That same Kumbedi, defender of second divisionist Le Havre, shot in from the rebound two minutes later.

In the 84th minute, the Orange seemed to force an extension thanks to a nice header by Dean Huijsen. However, the Juventus defender was just offside and his goal was disallowed.

This brought a disappointing end to the tournament for the Dutch national team, which was won by the Orange the last two times (in 2018 and 2019). The last two editions of the European Championship were canceled due to the corona pandemic.
