The Orange squad under 17 qualified for the final of the European Championship on Sunday. The team of national coach Mischa Visser won in Israeli Netanya after penalties from Serbia, after the game had ended in 2-2 after regular time.

All the goals in Israel came in the second half. Jason van Duiven opened the score for the Netherlands shortly after the break with a shot into the right corner, but eight minutes later the Serbs took the lead thanks to a header by Jovan Milosevic and a shot by Jovan Mijatovic.

More than fifteen minutes before the end, on a pass from Mike Kleijn, Jaden Slory made it 2-2, after which no more goals were scored. A penalty shootout then was the deciding factor and the Orange was the strongest with 5-4.

In the final, the Netherlands will take on France in Netanya next Wednesday, which also won Portugal after penalties in the other semi-final. That game also ended in 2-2 after ninety minutes.

The Orange squad won the previous two editions of the European Under-17 Championship in 2018 and 2019. The European Championship has been canceled for the past two years due to the corona pandemic.
