Orange Skyline from Zuidlaren makes theme song for Olympic Games

For Orange Skyline, the band of lead singer Stefan van der Wielen from Zuidlaren, the Olympic Games are already a highlight. The new single ‘A Fire’ has been chosen by the NOS as the theme song for all skating competitions during the tournament.

“A very nice surprise. I already like to watch ice skating and that is now even more fun”, Van der Wielen responds. Together with his brother Niels, guitarist of the band, he came up with the music and lyrics of A Fire. “Besides brothers, we are also neighbors, we live next door to each other. We regularly sit in the attic and then we just start singing against each other and play a bit on the guitar. Then the songs will come naturally.”

‘Heroic, Olympic track’

The brothers are both sports enthusiasts and wanted to show that love in a song. “You have those sports compilations with epic music. Our goal has always been to write such a heroic, Olympic track,” explains Van der Wielen. “At a certain point we took skating images from the internet and put them under our number. We forwarded it to our manager and he also thought it was great. ‘I am now going to kick down a few doors somewhere in Hilversum,’ he said. “

Yet it took a long time before a response from Hilversum followed. “We haven’t heard anything for months,” says Van der Wielen. “Until last week we received an email from Henry Schut of NOS Studio Sport. ‘Guys, I think this is the track we should use for skating,’ he wrote. That was fantastic news.”

Errand

Van der Wielen calls A Fire a fluke. “It all comes together very nicely. The track is about going deep, overcoming setbacks and keeping the fire burning. The message ties in very nicely with our Olympic athletes,” said the lead singer.

“And there is a very nice drive in the song, with epic choirs. If I have A Fire on while running, I walk a little faster through it. Hopefully our skaters will go a little faster too.”
