At the end of the year, my student son and I muse about our student lives. That brings me to Nietzsche: “Was mi nicht umbringt, mach mich stärker.”
He knows it as “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”.
“But why does that have to be in German?”
“Because it’s by Nietzsche,” I say. “A German philosopher.”
He is aware of that. And after some thought: “But we are here in the Netherlands, so we just speak English.”
