Oôs Joôs goes wild on his own song during Top2000 in the Berkhout village hall

Finally the time had come. At around 11:10 PM, the long-awaited song ‘Bloemkôle’ by the Berkhout band Oôs Joôs sounded through the speakers during the NPO Radio 2 Top2000. The band started in November an action, and thanks a lot to vote from West Friesland their song came in at number 805 on the list. The band gathered with their fans tonight to listen to the broadcast.

The band gathered with friends and family in the local café De Ridder in Berkhout to enjoy their songs together during the broadcast. “It just worked!”, singer Edwin de Weerd shouts enthusiastically. “It’s almost incomprehensible, but it’s really beautiful.”

‘Top2000 café in West Friesland’

In the self-proclaimed ‘Top2000 café of West Friesland’, friends, family and fans came together to enjoy the moment together. Even though the band had indicated not to perform, a few songs were sung here and there by the audience.

The broadcast of the Top2000 was projected on a screen. And it was even more exciting when, when playing song 806, the stream froze. Fortunately, the connection was quickly restored, and everyone was able to sing along to the song ‘Bloemkôle’ at the top of their lungs.

The campaign to get ‘Bloemkôle’ – an adaptation of ‘The Wanderer’ by Status Quo, which was not in the list this year – into the Top 2000, was a great success. According to the band, it was high time that a North Holland song, preferably from West Friesland, ended up on the list.

West Friesland made itself heard

The call had an impact, because West Friesland voted en masse for the song. The track by the Berkhout band was the favorite in six of the seven municipalities. Only in the municipality of Hoorn did Queen ‘win’ with 17 percent of the votes, while Oôs Joôs’ song obtained 12 percent.

On the other hand, the song about cabbage in Schagen was also the most popular. According to NPO Radio 2, the song would even have been in 11th place if it were up to the voters in North Holland.

The text continues after the card.

When asked whether the band plans to enter the Top2000 with more songs next year, De Weerd is cautious: “The fact that we have already achieved this is amazing! And next year… We’ll see!”
