Only a minority of VVD voters consider Yesilgöz suitable as party leader | Politics

Only a minority of VVD voters, 4 in 10, consider Dilan Yesilgöz suitable as party leader. This is evident from a poll One today among VVD voters. Today the VVD is meeting during a party conference.

Yesilgöz is going through a turbulent and bad period. After losing the elections, she rallied around the dispersal law. Moreover, her party is divided over the question of whether the VVD should fully enter a new, right-wing cabinet or whether it should take the tolerating role that Yesilgöz himself has in mind.

The poll shows that of VVD voters, 38 percent find her unsuitable, 22 percent have doubts. The VVD members also indicate in the poll that, unlike Yesilgöz, they do want the party to take a place in the cabinet. Only 9 percent of VVD voters support the choice to adopt a tolerating role, while a majority of 62 percent want the VVD to enter the cabinet.

Among the VVD voters in the One todaypanel, confidence in the VVD leader has fallen from 64 percent a month and a half ago to 47 percent now. Shortly after her appointment as party leader, in August last year, 87 percent still liked her.

Yesilgöz’s actions regarding the distribution law also earned her criticism. The VVD leadership withdrew from that law, but the party’s faction in the Senate actually agreed to it. Most VVD voters (55 percent) understand this. Only 29 percent of voters say Yesilgöz has sufficient authority within the party. Painful in that context: two-thirds of VVD voters think that there would have been less unrest under Mark Rutte as party leader.

The VVD is meeting today at a party conference, where Yesilgöz’s position does not appear to be under pressure. Party prominents are concerned about the direction of the party, but a large part of the supporters want a right-wing cabinet and an alternative leader for the party is also not available.
