Marilyn Mansons planned for October in Brighton, England, was canceled – After an online protest and a member of the British Parliament had taken a position against his appearance in the Brighton Center.
The first section of his European tour ONE Assassination Under God was to start on October 29th in the Brighton Center. According to “The Guardian”, Ticketmaster ticket buyers were informed that the concert will no longer take place and that they will receive reimbursements.
A Rolling-Stone Entlear Report from 2021 had shown that more than a dozen women had accusations of abuse against Manson, a bourgeois name Brian Warner. Including actress Evan Rachel Wood, Esmé Bianco, Model Ashley Morgan and Warner’s former personal assistant Ashley Walters. Warner has contested the accusations several times. After a four -year investigation, the Los Angeles public prosecutor’s office stopped the proceedings in January. Reason: Domestic violence is outside the limitation period. And the allegations of sexual violence could not be demonstrated without any doubt.
Protest movement and political intervention
The “No Stage for Abusers” initiative, according to its own description on Facebook, a “campaign against the platforms of abusive men”, demanded the Brighton Center and the city council of Brighton and Hove – which is part of the event building – to cancel Manson’s appearance.
At the beginning of this month, Siân Berry, Member of Parliament of the Greens, wrote an open letter to Bella Saney, the chairwoman of the city council of Brighton and Hove. In it she demanded the cancellation of the concert.
“Many survivors in Brighton and Hove as well as supporting organizations will have great concerns about this booking and their effects on visitors to the city center, residents and the community in the broader sense,” wrote Berry. The letter was signed by members of the Greens in the Brighton and Hove City Council, the Survivors’ Network organization, the student representative of the University of Sussex and other groups. Berry added: “The city council has the responsibility to act if discrimination, harassment or victimization threaten.”
Further criticism in Bournemouth
After Berry’s letter, Millie Earl, Chair of the City Council of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP). She asked the operator BH Live to cancel the appearance planned for October 31 at Manson’s Bournemouth International Center. An event site that belongs to the city council. But is operated independently by BH.
“I don’t think Marilyn Manson reflects BCP’s values. We are strongly involved in areas such as the White Ribbon program that supports men and boys in changing harmful behavior,” Earl replied to the demand for a citizen about the show, as the BBC reports. “So I asked BH Live to rethink the decision to make Marilyn Manson perform.”
