‘Online cyclist’ Vine does it again in Vuelta, Evenepoel keeps red | Cycling

Already from the start, some big names tried to get away, such as Alejandro Valverde and Richard Carapaz. In the end, ten broke away with Jay Vine and Marc Soler, who already won a stage in the first week. Mads Pedersen was also there, the Dane ensured by winning the intermediate sprint that he takes over the green from Sam Bennett. Thibaut Pinot, Mikel Landa and Alexey Lutsenko, among others, were also at the front.

At the start of the final climb to Colláu Fancuaya, the – now only eight – refugees had a little more than three minutes ahead of the peloton containing all the favourites. World champion Julian Alaphilippe, however, shot off time in the service of Remco Evenepoel.

At just over six kilometers the ball was opened in the leading group and just like two days ago Vine showed his super legs. The Australian online cyclist blasted all his companions overboard. Soler came a little closer in the last kilometers, but to no avail. Vine also took the mountain jersey.

Evenepoel shows his dominance

In the general classification Remco Evenepoel rode away with Enric Mas again, but this time also Primoz Roglic, Cristian Rodriguez and Simon Yates. The last two eventually had to fit, when Evenepoel pulled out all the stops in the last kilometer.

Mas and Roglic were unable to overtake the leader in the race in the last few hectometers. In fact, the duo struggled to keep the wheel of Evenepoel, who will look forward to Sunday’s stage with great confidence.

Adam Yates strikes in Germany

Adam Yates has won the third stage of the Tour of Germany, a stage with an uphill finish. The Briton of Ineos Grenadiers also immediately took over the lead from the Italian Alberto Bettiol.

Yates arrived at the Schauinsland alone, with Spaniard Pello Bilbao 19 seconds behind him. The Belgian Mauri Vansevenant finished third in 28 seconds. That trio also forms the top 3 in the standings, but the differences are slightly larger.

The final stage from Schillltag to Stuttgart will follow on Sunday. In the final, the Herdweg has to be climbed three times.
