Last Friday, the Toten Hosen benefited the earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey with their benefit concert, supported by the Donots and Thees Uhlmann. According to Campino, the goal of one million euros in donations was achieved. The amount consisted of 600,000 euros from ticket sales and 400,000 euros from donations. It was already clear in advance that the city of Düsseldorf would make the hall available free of charge and that the musicians would waive their fees. During the encores, Sammy Amara from the Düsseldorf punk band Broilers came on stage as a surprise guest.
The concert was broadcast on the radio and streamed live, allowing people who weren’t there to donate. More than 10,000 fans were guests in the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, including the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, and the Mayor of the city, Dr. Stephen Keller. Campino said: “It’s hard for all of us here to somehow endure this perversion, that in a country a dictator who doesn’t seem impressed by the death toll is raging with war and destruction, and 2000 kilometers away people are fighting death because of a natural disaster. And all this money that is now being pumped into arms and defense from all sides, how badly we could use that in Syria and Turkey. It crushes your heart.”
The money goes to the aid organizations Red Cross, Medico International and Doctors Without Borders, among others.
