Valencia FC presented their fans with a new coach on Christmas Day. Carlos Corberán signed a contract until 2027 and succeeds Rubén Baraja. The move is made possible by an exit clause in Corberán’s contract as coach of the English second division club West Bromwich Albion, as FC Valencia announced. This is reportedly around 3 million euros.

For Corberán it is a return to his homeland; the 41-year-old was born in the province of Valencia. He started his coaching career at Villarreal FC in his youth at the age of 23. He has not yet worked as a head coach in Spain. Before West Brom, Marcelo Bielsa’s former assistant in Leeds was active at Huddersfield Town (102 games) and Olympiakos Piraeus (11 games).

Valencia is currently only in second-to-last place in the Spanish LaLiga and is already four points behind the non-relegation zone. The crisis led to the dismissal of Barajas, who enjoys hero status due to his great success as a player in the club.
