Black on black on black. The Berlin designer Esther Perbandt remained true to her trademark in the autumn/winter 2022 season with her collection “L’atelier Time Machine”.
Slowly, to creaking atmospheric music, the models stride down the catwalk in the Berlin power plant on Tuesday evening. The look starts with a black mini dress with cord straps and ornate statement bracelets made of gold.
More dark outfits follow – a double-breasted blazer under a clockwork-print black bomber jacket, a sheer top with puffy sleeves full of cutouts. Especially in combination with the slightly oversized hats – high, black top hats and wide-brimmed fedoras, the models look like machinists in the hustle and bustle of the times.
Accessories such as pointed, black boots with wedge heels or a top with balloon sleeves and a shirt with a collar bow reinforce the nostalgia in the looks. The gold chain fringes on a floor-length black dress and pins on the gold rings oscillate to the slow pace of the models, who walk almost as if in light time-lapse, and towards the end it always seems more sluggish. Are they out of step? When is fashion timeless and when has it stopped?
