Pieter Omtzigt is participating in the House of Representatives elections throughout the Netherlands with his newly founded party New Social Contract (NSC). He said this during the presentation of his list of candidates. High on the list are a former councilor from Hilversum and Haarlem criminal court. An Amsterdam councilor is also switching to the new party.
Omtzigt previously stated that he did not necessarily want to become the largest with his party. It was therefore not certain whether he would participate in all constituencies.
Participating in just a few constituencies could keep the number of votes for his party within limits, giving the party time to grow quietly. Tonight the politician will announce that he can be voted for throughout the Netherlands.
Hilversumse in 2nd place
In second place is Nicolien van Vroonhoven-Kok from Hilversum. From 2014 to 2018 she was a councilor in Hilversum. She also sat in the House of Representatives on behalf of the CDA.
Haarlem criminal judge Judith Uitermark is in third place on the list. Uitermark specializes in mediation between victims and perpetrators.
Amsterdam councilor Diederik Boomsma (CDA) is also on the list, in 23rd place. He announced at the beginning of this month that he was in discussions with the party, but that he had not yet made a choice. Boomsma gives up his seat in the municipal council with immediate effect.
The CDA thanks Boomsma for his years as a councilor in the city. “Diederik has kept the council on its toes in a unique and determined manner in recent years and has stood up for many Amsterdam residents who felt opposed to the city council,” said Gregor Rossen, co-chairman of the CDA-Amsterdam.
In total, almost 2,500 people applied for a spot on the list. A total of 44 people have been selected, six of whom are North Hollanders. In recent polls, NSC has approximately 25 seats.
