1 The point about Omoda

A start-up or so at the beginning of 2025 (with 0.4% share of the Italian market), Omoda it became a better-known Chinese company over the course of the year, reaching a market share of 2% in December. OmodaJaecoo (the two brands go hand in hand, with the first more oriented towards technology, design, urban style, while the second designed for travel, adventures and light off-road) boast 82 operational showrooms in our territory (108 with upcoming openings), but it is an active reality in 64 markets with more than 800,000 registrations over the course of its short history so far. In 2025, 15,488 cars were delivered, of which 8,153 Omoda, with 70% of sales to private individuals, 17% to fleets and the remaining 13% destined for rentals. Between June and July 2026 the group (which is headed by Chery) will present another brand, Lepas, while iCaur will also arrive between 2026 and 2027.

2 Omoda 7 Shs-P: the technique

At launch, Omoda is offering the 7 with a single engine, the Shs-P (Super hybrid System plug-in): this is a 1.5 Miller cycle turbo petrol engine with 143 HP and 215 Nm with a plug-in hybrid system with two electric motors, one of which is used for traction (204 HP and 310 Nm) and the other involved in charging the battery. The traction is front only and the overall data speaks of 279 HP of maximum power and 365 Nm of torque. Despite important numbers, the car is limited to just 180 km/h top speed, while acceleration from 0-100 km/h is not amazing but average, 8.4 seconds. It must be said that, like many direct competitors, it is not a car that – despite having a very respectable technical data sheet – focuses on performance, if anything on efficiency. This is easily understood also due to the adoption of a Dht 150 transmission, certainly not sporty, but rather designed to work in synergy with a hybrid architecture of this type. Maybe in the future we will have the opportunity to test the consumption ourselves, for now we stick to what the company declares: 16.6 km/the battery flat, 43.5 km/the battery full, 6.6 km/kWh in electric mode with a range of 92 km (up to 128 in the city) for a total of 1,200 km even with the 60 liter tank. The CO2 emissions figure is not mind-boggling, 53 g/km, but certainly more truthful than that of other plug-ins.

3 Omoda 7 Shs-P: the technology

The particularity of the car lies in the 15.6″ central infotainment screen. Not so much for its size, but for its ability to slide right up to the front of the passenger seat, with a simple four-finger swipe. In this way, the front passenger will have everything under control, with the driver who can concentrate more on driving, having only the digital dashboard at his disposal. There is also a complete Adas package (with slightly insistent beeps) and the possibility of controlling the car via the application on your smartphone.

4 Omoda 7 Shs-P: first impressions

On a gloomy day in Milan we had the opportunity to “take our first steps” with the Omoda 7 Shs-P. Too little to judge its technical contents in depth and/or analyze real consumption, just enough to have an overview of the car, awaiting an in-depth test. The aesthetics of the car are of great impact, with sporty and futuristic lines both internally and externally. From some angles the rear overhang seems a bit excessive, but we are still talking about a car 4.66 meters long and with a minimum of 537 liters of luggage space available. The induction charging of the smartphone works well (and up to 40 W), while the two-spoke steering wheel is not the most ergonomic, with controls that take a moment to get used to as they are not the most intuitive on the market. The scenic effect of the central display is valid, the wireless connection to Apple Car Play/Android Auto is quick and easy and the interior materials are pleasant to the touch and to the eye. No strange creaks, comfortable seats and integrated headrests even for the occupants of the second row, who can enjoy the same materials as the driver and front passenger and not hard plastic, which is not at all a given.

5 Omoda 7 Shs-P: how’s it going

Always with the necessary premises of hoping to test the car in depth as soon as possible, in the approximately 20 km of test drive available to us we were able to notice poor rear visibility given by a not large rear window. The car prefers silent driving with a charged battery, minimizing petrol consumption. The set-up remains decidedly touristy and not sporty even when the Sport driving mode is set (the other two are Normal and Eco): the car requires a relaxed pace to fully enjoy the comfort and interior space, rather than continuous acceleration, braking and restarts which do nothing but highlight the limits of an SUV of almost 4.70 meters designed for comfort and not for handling at the top of the category.

6 After sales

Omoda knows well that it is still a little-known reality in Italy. For this reason, he is keen to underline that this car has an 8-year warranty (160 thousand km) – the same period for the battery and EV components – with spare parts distribution located between Milan and Bergamo with spare parts available within 24/48 hours throughout Italy and additional optional roadside assistance in collaboration with Allianz.
