OM wants to prosecute driver for murder after a police officer killed Inland

The fatal collision was registered by traffic cameras in the Waalhaven in Rotterdam. The truck driver hit motorcycle police officer De Korte (47) on the Waalhavenweg in Rotterdam on 7 July. The victim gave the suspect a stop sign after he had run a red light. Initially, the charge of the Public Prosecution Service was manslaughter.

After that, the driver would have hit the agent at a speed of 45 kilometers per hour and, according to the public prosecutor, dragged him hundreds of meters. The truck driver then drove on.

The truck driver from Melissant (South Holland) had to be admitted to the Pieter Baan Center for observation on the orders of the judge.

M. was involved in two previous accidents, in 2015 and 2020. In the first incident, a motorcycle police officer was also the victim, who lost his arm as a result of the collision. In 2020, he was involved in an accident in which a 79-year-old woman died. An investigation at the time showed that the suspect was not at fault for the woman’s death. The case was dropped.

The Central Bureau of Driving Skills (CBR) has conducted an internal investigation into the driver. The AD wrote in July last year that the CBR had received several alarm signals about the man, but had not acted on it. The CBR investigated what was known about the driver and how they acted. The CBR made no statements about the content of that investigation.
