The premises give rise to hope: second time for Giovanni Franzoni and fifth for Dominik Paris in the first test of the men’s downhill of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games: on the Stelvio di Bormio the best time of the inaugural act of the Olympic event (it will be competed on 7 February at 11.30) is dominated by the 33-year-old American Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who reached the finish line after 1’56″08. Behind him Giovanni Franzoni is convincing in every sector and finishes with just 16 hundredths of a second, followed by the Swiss Marco Odermatt, third at 40 hundredths. Just behind, the other Swiss Alexis Monney is fourth at 66 (with a goal jump) with Paris in fifth place at 94; Innerhofer (1″77) and Florian Schieder (1″78) finished from 13th to 15th position.

Franzoni was satisfied at the end of the first test: “I feel good, a little tired after Crans Montana but I recovered as best I could. I enjoyed this test, it was a bit strange today because it’s different from usual, but competing in Italy is special and I love this track. The snow is improving, it seems like an easier surface than other times, this is fine for training, I hope it’s more icy for the race.” Dominik Paris smiling: “It’s always nice to be here on the Stelvio. The track isn’t in perfect condition yet, but there’s time before the race. Conditions change along the track but it was important to do this first test. I already feel ready for Saturday.” Tomorrow, Thursday 5 February, the second timed test is scheduled, starting at 11.30.
No fractures for the Frenchman Nils Alphand, who fell in practice: he injured his right hand, but will participate in tomorrow’s test.
