Beijing (AP) – Two days before the opening ceremony, the first competitions at the Beijing Winter Olympics have begun.
In the mixed curling competition, hosts China won 7-6 in the first preliminary round match against Switzerland, and there were four duels at the start. German curling teams did not qualify for Beijing.
The Winter Games will open on Friday in the Vogelnest Stadium and are scheduled to end after 16 days with medal decisions on February 20th. Before that, on Thursday, there will be more curling games, the first women’s ice hockey games and the first qualifying runs for the ski freestylers on the mogul slope. The mixed competition in figure skating also starts on Friday.
