Open water Olympic champion Florian Wellbrock will definitely not start in the swimming competitions of the finals in Berlin from June 23rd to 26th.
This was confirmed on Wednesday by Marco Troll, President of the German Swimming Association, when asked by dpa. “Exactly at the time of the finals swims Florian in Budapest the open water competitions at the World Championships,” said Troll.
The World Cup was scheduled at short notice by the world association Fina after the original organizer Japan had given back the title fights planned for August due to the corona pandemic. Hungary stepped in with the June date, which overlaps with the finals.
“It’s all a bit of a problem for us. We want to be at the finals, but the best also want to swim at the World Championships. Nevertheless, we will try to bring as many athletes who start in Hungary to Berlin as possible. Of course, this also depends on the results of the heats. There is already a theoretical plan, but I can’t talk about names yet because it depends on the results in Budapest,” said Troll.
You will also accept everything financially so that, if possible, the best can also compete in the finals.
