The dream of a medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics has burst for racing tobogganists Madeleine Egle. She was emotional after her lock.
The Austrian racing tobogganist Madeleine Egle wanted to attack at the Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. But the 27-year-old has to do without the medal hunt because she was closed for 20 months. The reason: she missed three doping controls in 2023.
First Egle spoke up on Instagram. Now she followed her criticism in conversation with ORF – and broke out in tears during the interview. This shows a contribution by the broadcaster on Instagram. Egle says: “It destroyed me a bit. It was not the extent that I would somehow would have been with.”
Your lock applies retrospectively from March 1, 2025. As is now going on for Beijing’s Olympic second, it is not clear: “It is a huge disappointment because I have not expected the Olympics.”
Egle also asserts that although she missed the doping controls, the reasons were diverse. So the Tyrolean put open: “Of course there were mistakes. For example, on my first ‘Missed test’ it was so that my slottime was already over and I didn’t change it. And then I slept somewhere else.” The athletes must always be accessible to the inspectors at a time of the day – and place the location and address.
Therefore, Egle stated: “In my third (Missed Test, editor’s note) it was so, I stated the Airbnb and found myself on site. Only before booking I did not know which apartment number I had.”
For Madeleine Egle there is now a difficult time. Due to the lock, she loses her status as a top athlete and, according to her own statements, flies from sports promotion. She confessed: “I am actually a perfectionist person, so I was particularly annoyed. But I’m just a person.” She emphasized again that punishments are important, but could not understand why she was punished harder as a real doping offender by her missed tests.
