The viewers held their breath at these pictures! Dominik Schwaiger (30) had a bad fall on the lower part of the Olympic downhill run.

By Morit Leihkamm and Thorsten Felske

After a jump, he clipped the ski at the entrance to a right-hand bend and was literally catapulted off the track. The speedometer was just before 128 km / h!

Schwaiger slipped down the slope and then smashed through a safety net on the side of the track. He then remained lying in the snow, immediately holding his left arm. The race had to be interrupted for several minutes before Schwaiger was taken away in an Akia (rescue sled).

The German Ski Association (DSV) has now confirmed that he has sustained a forearm injury, more precise diagnoses are still pending.

Other drivers also had problems with the track. Gold favorite Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (29) wasted a lot of time at the point where Schwaiger crashed and only finished fifth.

However, three oldies used their experience: Beat Feuz (34/Switzerland) took gold, Johan Clarey (41/France) silver and Matthias Mayer (31/Austria) bronze. Clarey is the oldest skier to ever win an Olympic medal.

The best German was Romed Baumann in 13th place.
