Ski jumping star Simon Ammann is known for his ambition. He would like to go to the Ski World Cup, but there is hardly any hope anymore.
The Swiss Simon Ammann still sits on the bar at the age of 43 and rushes down the ski jump. His last World Cup jumping was in Titisee-Neustadt in mid-December. Most recently, the four-time Olympic champion (2002 and 2010) started in the Continental Cup and probably has no chance of a squad square for the Ski World Cup in Trondheim at the end of February.
Joel Bieri, chief ski jumping at Swiss Ski, said “Today.at”: “The performance principle applies.” And Ammann was not in the World Cup recently and his achievements in the Continental Cup in Norway did not speak 20 and 29 for the experienced ski jumper.
In the current World Cup squad, Gregor Deschwanden, Killian Peier as well as Felix Trunz and Yanick are water. Trunz is 18 years old and water is two years older. Both talents are to be built up for the future. Therefore, Bieri continued in relation to Ammann and the World Cup squad: “Simon is currently not part of it. His achievements are not correct.”
The chief ski jump of the Swiss added to the World Cup: “With good jumps in the Continental Cup, he can recommend himself for a World Cup place.” So Ammann still has chances. Even if he knows that they are low. “Simon was not angry. He knows himself that he has to increase,” said Bieri.
To improve its shape, he continues to compete in the Continental Cup. After a decent start to the season, however, he lost to Constance and already failed both at the home World Cup in Engelberg and on the four-hill tour.
