Nina Christen wanted to decide for herself when she would end her career. This point has now come for her.

The Swiss sports shooter Nina Christen won gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Now, four years later, the 31-year-old announced her retirement at the end of the year. The Swiss shooting association “Swiss Shooting” (SSV) announced this in a statement and spoke of the end of an “era”.

Christen is at peace with her decision: “The effort and the return are no longer the same as before. It no longer gives me the same amount as it once did. I am in the wonderful situation that I don’t have to stop, I can stop.” Christen has been practicing her sport for 15 years.

Joël Strubi, head of top-class sport and young talent at the SSV, said: “Nina Christen has shaped shooting sports like no other. She is a role model, a team player, a mediator of knowledge and has left her mark across generations.”

Christen thanked her partner Camille for his years of support: “If he wasn’t who he is, my career would never have turned out the way it did.” He was also with her when she had a “post-Olympic depression” after winning the gold medal in Tokyo, as the Swiss “Blick” reports.

Despite the uncertain future, the shooter is looking forward to the time that is coming and emphasized: “I’m a bit like a teenager again who has to find my career.” She doesn’t have any exact plans yet. However, Christen completed training as a helicopter pilot in 2022 and has had her private pilot license since October of this year.
