Olli traveled hundreds of kilometers to his favorite band’s gig – Then came the cancellation

From Pori Ollie went with his entourage to the concert of the Danish band Mew towards the Helsinki Ice Hall on Friday.

– We were in the car on the way and almost there, and I couldn’t believe what I saw, Olli says.

A couple of kilometers before the Helsinki Ice Hall, the event organizer received a message on the phone that the band’s concert had been cancelled.

– At first we couldn’t believe it, we wondered if this was some kind of prank, but it wasn’t, Olli tells the group that he thought.

Olli has been listening to the band for over ten years. He has seen them perform once before at Tavastia in Helsinki.

– We are a bit lazy to go to gigs, but we had to go to this farewell gig.

Olli says that the whole group was very disappointed by the news they heard, because they had traveled hundreds of kilometers to see the gig and booked accommodation for it.

When giving an interview, a moment after the incident, the man was no longer upset so much.

– We have to come up with something else, since we usually don’t come all the way to Helsinki, he says.

The group had booked a hotel in Lappeenranta, because they have a family party the next day. That’s why Olli says that the cancellation of the gig did not upset him unreasonably.

According to Olli, the ticket seller Ticketmaster has promised to refund the ticket price, but travel expenses will not be reimbursed. He regrets the solution, because he thinks that traveling has become expensive these days. On the other hand, Olli admits that compensation for travel expenses may not be a realistic expectation.

– It may not be realistic, but at that moment I felt that it would be great if that were done, he says.

The Danish band Mew announced earlier on Friday that they were canceling their gig at the Helsinki Ice Hall just hours before it started. The cancellation was said to be due to the soloist’s illness.
