Olivia Rodrigo caused a surprise at the Coachella festival on Saturday: she entered unannounced Addison Raes set the stageto give the live premiere of their just released new single “Drop Dead”.

Towards the end of Rae’s set, the singer was performing her song “Headphones On” when she paused briefly after the lyric “I compare myself to the new It Girl” – and Rodrigo came on stage:

The two singers then finished the song together as a duet before Rae handed the spotlight to Rodrigo, who took the opportunity to perform her “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” single live for the first time ever:

Rodrigo’s Coachella story

Although Rodrigo has never played a Coachella set of her own, she is no stranger to the festival: in 2024, she showed up unannounced at No Doubt’s reunion set and sang “Bathwater” with the band.

“Drop Dead,” the Cure-inspired first single from “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” was released Friday. Rodrigo wrote on Instagram: “I love this song so much!!! It’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me want to jump around, roll down the car windows and make out!”

“You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” – affectionately dubbed “GSIL” by her fans – will be released on June 12th via Geffen Records. Before that, on May 2nd, Rodrigo will take on a double role on “Saturday Night Live”.
