Oliver Sim: “There will definitely be more music from The xx!”

The-xx bassist/vocalist Oliver Sim has just released his solo debut, HIDEOUS BASTARD. For this reason he was too on the US podcast “Kyle Meredith with…”. and spoke there not only about his own music, but also about that of his band. He had good news for fans of The xx: “The xx will always be my home and my number one priority. I wouldn’t normally speak for Romy and Jamie, but I know they feel the same way I do. The fact that we all have our solo projects makes The xx even more exciting to me: How will our experiences change the band? We haven’t recorded anything yet, but there will definitely be more music from The xx to come.”

Sim also said, among other things, that it was his band that first brought him to solo music and self-discovery: “The xx have their own DNA, a sound that I didn’t want to copy. But I’ve been a part of this band since I was 15 and one day I asked myself: If I’m not a third of this band, then who am I?

With his minimal electro indie rock band The xx, Oliver Sim has released three (acclaimed) albums as bassist, songwriter and singer. The still current one is called I SEE YOU and was released in 2017. The xx member Jamie xx released his solo debut IN COLOR in 2015 and a few days ago a new track called “KILL DEM”, singer Romy Madley Croft released her debut single in September 2020 “Lifetime”.

Oliver Sim’s solo debut HIDEOUS BASTARD, produced by Jamie xx, was released on September 9, 2022. ME author Stefan Hochgesand gave 5.5 stars out of 6 and wrote in his review of our album of the week: “The The xx singer is rising down into the dream cellar in his soul noir pop solo debut.”
