Oliver Helander’s last four words spoke volumes – now discover what they meant

Helander qualified for the final in seventh place with the best race.

After the javelin World Cup final in Eugene, Oliver Helander was asked in a Yle TV interview if he plans to compete in the Kaleva Games.

– I guess it has to be, Helander stated at the time.

From the comment, it was possible to interpret that the motivation towards the SM karkeloi was not lost.

After qualifying for the javelin in Joensuu, Helander opened up more about his comments.

– This is a bit of a bad time considering the European Championships. But I came to defend the championship.

– It is disappointing, there is no other goal than gold, Helander assured.

The European Championship starts in Munich on August 15.

Helander was not allowed to break the 75 meter qualifying limit. The throw with 74.18 was enough for seventh place and a place in the final. However, he stayed to watch the second and third rounds at the throwing place.

– It was a practice throw. I was 100% sure that it was enough for the final. I threw with a good feeling.

The condition of Helander’s shoulder speaks from race to race. In Joensuu, he said that the hand is fine.

However, he hasn’t thrown a javelin since returning from Eugene.

– Tossed a little Frisbee.

You don’t change?

– No, Helander smiled.

The javelin final will take place at Joensuu’s central field on Sunday evening.
