Old Yprabier gets a second life thanks to family brewer and son Edouard Vermeulen

Ypra had been a family brewery since 1836. But that came to an end in 1976. The last brewer was Charles Vermeulen, the father of fashion designer Edouard Vermeulen of fashion house NATAN. Striking: Edouard Vermeulen, like Omer Jean Vander Ghinste – of the brewery of the same name in Bellegem – is a descendant of Polydore Vermeulen, the first brewer of the Ypra brewery.

Fashion translated to beer

Brewery Omer Vander Ghinste is now breathing new life into their family’s beer in Ypres. After Omer and Tripel LeFort, they are including Yprabier in their range. Thus, both families come together again. Edouard Vermeulen has now translated his vision of fashion and experience in haute couture to the brewing traditions. (continue reading below the video)
