Entrepreneur Roelof-Jan Wollerich from Drouwenermond and construction companies Avitec and Novar want to build a gas station for hydrogen and electricity at Gasselternijveenschemond. The gas station for cars and trucks should be placed at an old gas extraction location of the NAM on the Gasselternijveenschedreef.
The hydrogen comes from a new sustainable production location in Nieuw-Buinen. The intention is that the hydrogen ends up at the gas station via a former gas pipeline between Emmen and the Eemshaven, although that is not yet complete. The initiators want to generate electricity themselves with a small solar park.
Construction companies Avitec and Novar assume that in the future twelve trucks, especially from potato processor Avebé, and a hundred to two hundred cars will use the gas station. Agricultural tractors that run on hydrogen can also go there.
There are concerns about the construction of the gas station from Gasselternijveenschemond. According to Klaas Roelfsema of the Dorpsbelangenvereniging, this has to do with the windmills that are nearby.
Residents fear accidents if something goes wrong with the wind turbines near the hydrogen station. In addition, after all the noise after the arrival of the windmills, the construction of a solar park is sensitive.
“A few years ago the agreement was made with the municipality that no solar parks would be built in the village,” says Roelfsema. Such an agreement has indeed been made, says alderman Ivo Berghuis (municipal interests), but according to him that only applies to the construction of large -scale solar parks.
The alderman believes that the prohibition is not valid for a small solar park on site. “We disagree with the Dorpsbelangenvereniging about the interpretation of that agreement,” says Berghuis.
The city council of Aa and Hunze must first give a positive advice to let the plan go through, but that seems no problem in advance.
All parties from AA and Hunze like to see the gas station as an alternative to fossil fuels. The reuse of the old NAM location also thinks the council members are a good plan. In a few weeks, the city council must vote on the plan.
