The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired young guard Jared McCain in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is out due to injury.
Shams Charania reported both (ESPN) on Wednesday in a double whammy. The extent to which the trade could be a reaction to the loss will be determined, at least in part, by the length of the injury break. The information so far only says that the reigning MVP has pulled an abdominal muscle and will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break in just under ten days.
For McCain, the Thunder are sending the Rockets’ first-round pick in the upcoming draft as well as three second-round picks to Philly.
The 21-year-old was selected 16th in the 2024 draft and played a promising rookie season with 15.3 points per game with good shooting percentages.
However, this ended after just 23 appearances with a serious leg injury, which may still be bothering McCain in his second season. This season, McCain only contributed 6.6 points on 38.5 percent from the field in 37 appearances for the Sixers.
