Officially: FC Bayern has decided not to sign Boateng

Jérôme Boateng is not returning to FC Bayern. The Bundesliga soccer team officially announced this on Friday evening.

The 35-year-old trained on Säbener Straße this week. FC Bayern was considering a renewed collaboration with the 2014 world champion. Boateng already played on the Isar between 2011 and 2021. However, there will be no renewed engagement.

“Looking at all aspects, FC Bayern has now decided not to sign Jérôme Boateng. At the same time, as a deserving player of the club, he was offered the opportunity to continue to stay fit at FC Bayern. Jérôme Boateng was in good physical shape “, says the club statement.

The German series champion also pointed out that the personnel situation in the central defenders had relaxed. Dayot Upamecano and Minjae Kim are available again for FC Bayern. Matthijs de Ligt is “on the road to recovery”. Recently, the club had a personnel shortage in the back team.

Jérôme Boateng reportedly “very disappointed”

As “Sport1” writes, Boateng is said to be “very disappointed with the club’s actions because it was initially clearly communicated to him that a commitment would only depend on the sporting aspect.”

Boateng is still the focus of the judiciary. Although the Bavarian Supreme Regional Court recently overturned his conviction for bodily harm, it ordered a new trial before the Munich I Regional Court. Both Boateng and the Munich public prosecutor’s office appealed against the verdict.

Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund recently emphasized that the presumption of innocence applies. “We can’t anticipate this. I’m not a lawyer and I don’t want to anticipate any court,” the Munich official told “Prime Video” on the sidelines of the Champions League game at FC Copenhagen (2-1) on Tuesday evening.

According to “Bild”, the legal matter “was the deciding factor” in not signing Boateng. According to “Sport1”, the “doubts” among those responsible for Bayern are “too great, also because the legal proceedings have not yet been completed.”
