Official: Klopp extends at Liverpool – “Some will like it, some not so much”

Title four pack within reach

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC have confirmed the joint contract extension. In two videos released by the Reds, the German coach first made it clear that he was staying with the help of a “Beatles” classic (“I’m in love with her(e), and I feel fine”), then he announced that it two more contract years to the previous term of his working paper. Means: Klopp plans to stay with the traditional club until at least 2026, which he had led back to success in recent years. “Like last time: some will like it, some not so much,” he commented on his decision.

He made the choice to stay, among other things, because his wife also wanted to stay, as Klopp emphasized. The LFC is also “the best place” where he could be. Originally, the former Dortmund champion coach had indicated his departure for 2024 after nine years in Liverpool and a subsequent break. Instead, now the extension, which also applies to the assistants Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz. That should have been a basic condition of Klopp.

Klopp added: “We still have that freshness at the club and that gives me energy. Since I’ve been here, our owners have shown incredible commitment and energy to this club and it’s clear that right now this applies to our future in a way I’ve never seen before.”

Mike Gordon, President of the American club owner Fenway Sports Group, traveled to the Champions League semi-final first leg against Villarreal (2-0) on Wednesday. The businessman had already negotiated the last contract with Klopp in 2019. Mark Kosicke, the coach’s advisor, was also in the stands during the game against the Spaniards.

Klopp has been the Reds manager since 2015. During this time he has led the club back to the top of Europe. In 2019 he won the Champions League with Liverpool, and in 2020 the club’s first championship in 30 years. This season even the historic title four pack beckons. Liverpool have already won the League Cup, have reached the final against Chelsea and coach Thomas Tuchel in the FA Cup and are just a point behind their long-time rivals Manchester City in the Premier League.
