With the Italian European champion Jorginho, one of the most valuable players with a contract that originally expired in 2023 is off the market. As expected, the 31-year-old midfielder is moving from Chelsea to Arsenal in London and, according to media reports, will receive a working paper until 2024 with an option for another year.
With six months left on the contract, the “Gunners” will pay around 14.8 million euros (12 million pounds) for Jorginho, who has become the second most expensive over-30 transfer in the club’s history behind Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Arsenal paid BVB 16m for the Greek defender in 2018/19.

In addition, the former Neapolitan is the seventh player to move from the Blues to the north of the English capital since the summer of 2000. The first was William Gallas in 2006 followed by Lassana Diarra in 2007, Yossi Benayoun in 2011, Petr Cech in 2015, David Luiz in 2019 and Willian in 2020. Only Ashley Cole in 2006 and Olivier Giroud in 2018 went the opposite way during this period.
Jorginho is Arsenal’s alternative to Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moisés Caicedo. The 21-year-old midfielder was not available in this transfer window, despite an offer of more than 70 million euros and the fact that he made his transfer request public.
