Odds Giro d’Italia, winner: here are the favorites according to the bookmakers

The 106th edition of the Giro di Italia starts on Saturday 6 May: the Belgian is the main candidate for the pink jersey, with the blue dreaming of the coup

For 106 years, national and international sport has been punctuated by the Giro di Italia: since 1909, following the intuition of some journalists from the Gazzetta dello Sport, three weeks of pure entertainment with plains, coasts, hills, cities of art and the dreaded Alps, where it is decided usually the victory in the general classification. 21 stages for the 2023 edition of the Giro di Italia, with 18 road races and three time trial stages, for a total of 3,490 km of very strong emotions. Below is an overview of Giro d’Italia odds.

Giro d’Italia odds: Evenepoel ahead of everyone

There will be no defending champion Jay Hindley. All eyes are therefore on Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian has just won the Liège-Bastogne-Liège and is aiming for the pink jersey after the Northern classic. The reigning world champion finds the liking of the betting site operators and his stake comes on at 2.00 on Sisal Matchpoint, Betfair And betway. Beware of Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian would have been the favourite, but he has just returned to the saddle after shoulder surgery and therefore may not be 100% fit.

Third in the 2019 Giro di Italia, the Balkan has won the Vuelta three times in his career: 2019, 2020 and 2021. Roglic is in the wake of the Belgian at 3.00 on Better, bet365 and Daznbet. Between these two cyclists and the rest of the peloton that will take part in the Giro, there is an abyss in terms of odds. Suffice it to say that the possible third wheel is Joao Almeida. The Lusitanian has always been very strong in recent years at the Giro: fourth in 2020, sixth in 2021 and retired in 2022 due to covid when he was third. A climber like we haven’t seen for some time and his final triumph pays 15.00 on Snai and Goldbet, while Sisal raises it up to 25.00.

Giro d’Italia Odds: CARUSO FOR THE AZZURRI

On paper, the Azzurri cyclists don’t seem to have much hope, but watch out for Damiano Caruso. Second in the 2021 edition, the Ragusan could be the loose cannon of the Giro d’Italia. High odds for him: 51.00 on Better, with bet365 stating 34.00 and Snai paying 33.00. For the other Italians there are sidereal quotations: Domenico Pozzovivo is worth 301.00 on bet365, while Lorenzo Fortunato lights up at 100.00 on Sisal. Question mark on Giulio Ciccone: the Abruzzo man tested positive for Covid during the last Liège-Bastogne-Liège and his conditions remain uncertain for such an exhausting event. The fact is that on the Sisal blackboard we find him at 25.00, waiting to understand what he will be able to do.

THE OTHER FAVORITES

Let’s see who, among the foreign riders, has the chance to get their hands on the pink jersey at the end of the 21 stages. Aleksandar Vlasov is a possible outsider. In 2021, the Russian finished in fourth place in the general classification and 24 months later his odds shine at 20 on DaznBet, with Goldbet and Snai at 15.00. For Geraint Thomas it will be a bit of a Last Dance: champion at the 2018 Tour, the Englishman is making his last appearance in the squad. The Brit pays 15.00 on Better, while Betfair and Betway are more cautious at 13.00. Finally, not to be underestimated the Australian Jay Vine who settles at 33.00 on Snai, with bet365 which lowers it to 29.00.

THE TOUR IN PILLS

The 106th edition of the Giro d’Italia starts on Saturday 6th and will end on Sunday 28th May. Departure with the Time Trial in Abruzzo, “Costa dei Trabocchi”. Then we will descend into Basilicata, to pass through the city of Naples, with departure and arrival in the same stage on the slopes of Vesuvius. Passage from the Gran Sasso through the first demanding mountains, before landing on the Romagna coast. From the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea, with Viareggio the arrival of the tenth stage. From here on we go up towards the north of the country, with the arrival in Tortona, the home of Fausto Coppi. The alpine part of the Giro will be the decisive one for the awarding of the title of champion. The caravan will experience very hard moments such as the 13th stage which leads to the border crossing into Switzerland and with three Mountain Grands Prix: the Cima Coppi fixed on the Gran San Bernardo at 2469 meters.

The following day there will be the Bergamo stage, a sort of commemoration of the Giro to the places most affected by Covid. Great curiosity for the ascent to Monte Bondone and the legendary Tre Cime di Lavaredo, where the slopes exceed 10%. The Tarvisio uphill time trial will be extremely difficult, with gradients of up to 22%. The final winner will wear the pink jersey and parade in triumph the following day in a final catwalk at the Imperial Forums in Rome. The three time trials are scheduled for 6, 14 and 27 May. Two rest days: Monday 15 and 22 May. The Giro is ready to take over Italy.
