New in the database
Another milestone has been added to the TM database: in addition to the 1947/48 season, the 1948/49 Oberliga West season can now also be viewed in its entirety. As in the previous year, Borussia Dortmund was champion in that, with 17 wins and four draws from 24 games ahead of RW Essen. In the final round, the final against VfR Mannheim – after a 2:3 in extra time – was the end of the line.
Dortmund’s Adi Preißler secured the award for the top scorer. Born in Duisburg, he played the ball twice for the German national team and netted a total of 23 times in 24 games for the Black and Yellows. Herbert Burdenski, the later national coach Jupp Derwall and Schalke icon Ernst Kuzorra, who was a coach on the sidelines at Erkenschwick, also left their mark. In 1947/48, however, August Lenz drew attention to himself as the most successful goal-getter, scoring 22 goals in 24 appearances for BVB.
