Oberliga West 1951/52: Rot-Weiss Essen wins championship

New in database

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market database. The 1951/52 season of the Oberliga West can now be viewed in its entirety. Rot-Weiss Essen became champions, having won 20 games in 30 games and only suffered five losses. Ultimately, there was a lead of five points over last year’s winners FC Schalke 04 in second place. Meanwhile, the top scorer did not come from Essen or Schalke, but from MSV Duisburg: Karl Hetzel. The attacker scored a total of 25 times and left national player Helmut Rahn behind.

In the final round of the German championship, Essen missed out on the final in the second group because VfB Stuttgart was the leader of the table with eleven points. In the first group, Schalke did not get past fourth and last place.
