Expansion of Series B financing for Embodied AI
The technology company D-Robotics has successfully expanded its Series B financing round. In a recent announcement, the company announced that it had raised an additional $150 million from investors. This brings the capital generated as part of this financing round to a total of $270 million. As the news platform Gasgoo reports, well-known investors such as the Chinese state regulatory authority SASAC took part in this round. The fresh capital will primarily be used to advance the development of a platform for so-called Embodied AI, which embeds artificial intelligence directly into physical robot systems.
Background and personal connection to NVIDIA
The attention of the Financial markets results largely from the personnel composition and the history of the company’s origins. D-Robotics was launched as a spin-off from autonomous driving specialist Horizon Robotics to separately drive the general robotics business. The company is headed by a former high-ranking employee of the US chip company NVIDIA, who was previously responsible for autonomous driving there. According to business news portal Yicai Global, the strategy aims to develop specialized processors and software solutions for the next generation of intelligent machines. Thanks to the founders’ expertise, the startup is positioning itself in a market environment that has previously been heavily dominated by US hardware.
Market positioning and stock market context
For investors, the development of D-Robotics is closely linked to the performance of the parent company. Horizon Robotics recently completed a successful IPO in Hong Kong and recorded significant share price gains on the first day of trading. The data portal Quartr, a provider of financial data and investor communication, lists Horizon Robotics as a central player in the field of AI hardware. In this context, the successful capital raising by D-Robotics is seen as confirmation of the growing interest in Chinese semiconductor solutions. The technological basis for the robotics division is formed by chipsets that were originally designed for the automotive industry and are now being adapted for broader applications in the area of industrial and private robotics.
