Nurse Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen suspected of involvement in the death of patients during the corona pandemic

A 30-year-old nurse from the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen has been arrested for alleged involvement in the death of patients during the corona pandemic.

The suspect from Noordenveld worked as a nurse in the hospital during that period. The Public Prosecution Service announced this on Thursday.

What exactly was his role?

The Public Prosecution Service does not yet want to say how many patients in the WZA have died due to his actions and what his role was in this. The man was arrested on Monday. He will be brought before the examining magistrate on Thursday in connection with the extension of his pre-trial detention. Restrictions have been imposed, meaning that he can only have contact with his lawyer for the time being.

The arrest is the result of a criminal investigation initiated by the police and the Public Prosecution Service in the Northern Netherlands following a report by the WZA to the police.

‘We understand that this raises questions’

The press officer: ,,Further investigation must show what exactly happened. This requires great care. The police and OM understand that this message raises questions. However, due to the restrictions placed on the suspect, we are unable to share more information at this time. This could also harm the investigation.”

Those directly involved have been informed by the police.
