A touching moment was heard on Radio Nova’s broadcast on Saturday evening, when Waldo aka Marko Reijonen spoke about the victims of the Nurmijärvi traffic accident and played two songs in their memory. Four young people from Nurmijärvi died in the accident.
Iltalehti reached Waldo after the broadcast.
Waldo lives with his family in Nurmijärvi and his son is the same age as the victims. The town is small, so the boy also knew a few of the victims. Waldo also knew enough about the victims to describe them as “decent young people”.
– They were not part of my son’s close circle, but here in Nurmijärvi there are quite small circles. It’s a terrible situation. You can’t even understand this thing, Waldo tells Iltalehte.
Waldo says he was moved to tears today when he heard the news. His son was also recently in a traffic accident.
– My son also has a driver’s license with an exception. He got hurt in that a month ago. He got my car in such condition that it had to be picked up by a tow truck. There are inexperienced drivers.
“Crazy place”
Waldo knows the accident site and has driven by it many times himself. The bend is difficult even for a more experienced driver.
– That place is awful. A crooked road that has been completely frozen over with that river in it. Then when the temperature even drops back, it freezes. Crazy place.
Waldo tries to discuss the matter with his son. He also estimates that many other young people need conversational help from their parents today.
– Those children are such that they don’t talk when they start being harassed. He keeps them inside and meditates in his own head. I have always tried to talk to all the children. The sense horns must be quite sensitive, says Waldo.
