Nuri Şahin is set to make a surprise return to Borussia Dortmund, where he is apparently set to become Edin Terzic’s assistant coach. The club of the Turkish first division club Antalyaspor confirmed both the departure of the 35-year-old and the offer from the black and yellow.
“We as Antalyaspor are sorry to lose a great coach like Nuri Şahin. But we are also proud that he received an offer from a club like Borussia Dortmund,” said deputy chairman Alkan Evren (quoted via “AA Spor“).
Şahin has been the coach and head of the football department at Antalyaspor, his last stop as a professional, since October 2021. He averaged 1.49 points from 92 games. The 52-time Turkish international came from BVB’s youth ranks in 2005 and became the youngest Bundesliga professional ever at the time. Under Jürgen Klopp, he became German champion with Dortmund in 2011 and then moved to Real Madrid. Şahin returned in January 2013 and stayed again until 2018. He played a total of 274 times for the black and yellow team.
